This year we are very pleased to welcome back a Burrell steam engine from New Zealand, which has been in the UK since 2020 having a complete overhaul by Neil Gough and had boiler work carried out by Mervyn Mayes. The engine will be doing a few shows this year, before returning home to New Zealand.
Burrell 'Duke of Canterbury' built in 1910 was exported to New Zealand working commercially, with ploughing and haulage up until 1955, entering preservation in 1958. This engine exhibited here at Weeting Rally twice before, in 2001 and 2019, we welcome her back for 2023! Below are some photos from her working days, with credit to the current owner Phil Kerr.
